Epic Challenges Particle Health Over Data Access Practices

What You Should Know:

– Epic Systems, a leading electronic health records (EHR) provider, has initiated a dispute against Particle Health through the Carequality interoperability network, raising concerns about the potential misuse of patient medical records.

– The dispute, filed at the direction of Epic’s customer governing council, alleges that some Particle customers used the network to take people’s medical records under false pretenses.

Alleged Misuse of Data

One example cited in the dispute involves a business called Integritort, which claimed to be treating patients while actually gathering medical records on behalf of personal injury law firms for potential class action lawsuits.

Carequality’s Role and Particle’s Response

The Carequality Steering Committee has reviewed the dispute and issued a resolution, which Particle Health has reportedly mischaracterized. Epic is urging Particle to join them in requesting Carequality to publicly release the resolution, allowing all stakeholders to evaluate the facts independently.
